Clinical profile of adolescent population presenting with Portal Hypertension at a tertiary care center

Background and Aims: Portal Hypertension (PHT) is a major cause of morbidity mortality in pediatric liver diseases. We aimed to study patients` characteristics outcome adolescent population presenting with PHT. Methods: Prospectively collected clinic database from January 2014 December 2022 was analysed identify (10-19 years age group) features Results: Total 125 patients reviewed. Male were 79 (63.2%). Mean 16.1 years. Various etiologies PHT Extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO) (n=43,34.4%), Non-cirrhotic fibrosis (NCPF) (n=25,20%), Budd-chiari syndrome (BCS) (n=18,14.4%), cirrhosis (n=37,29.6%) chronic PVT (n=2,1.6%). Among 37 cirrhotics, different AIH 4 (10.8%), Wilson`s 12 (32.4%), HBV 8 (21.6%), Caroli`s disease 1 (2.7%) cryptogenic (32.4%). Acute on failure present cases, (n=2) being the most common etiology. Most complaint variceal bleed (n=44,35.2%) followed by ascites (n=39, 31.2%), jaundice (n=26,20.8%) hepatic encephalopathy (n=6,4.8%). Thirty-four cases diagnosed during evaluation anemia/pancytopenia or fever. In EHPVO NCPF, presentation whereas BCS cirrhotics presented more commonly ascites. Pancytopenia 78 (62.4%). Esophageal Gastric varices at index endoscopy 77 (61.6%) 27 (21.6%) cases. During 65 months median follow up, recurrent seen 6 5 NCPF respectively despite surveillance endoscopy. All 18 started anticoagulation eight underwent vascular intervention. Overall 4.8%. deaths, had (2 post DIPSS), Wilson related ACLF another decompensated cirrhosis. Conclusion: are causes adolescents good overall prognosis.
